Actress Ashley Judd endorsed Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes Tuesday, backing the Kentucky secretary of state's challenge to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). Judd had given serious consideration to challenging McConnell, but decided against running.

Grimes on Mondaybecame the first Democrat to challenge McConnell. McConnell has low favorability ratings, possibly leaving him vulnerable, but he represents a state that votes reliably for the GOP.

McConnell responded to Grimes' candidacy in a statement on Monday. "Accepting the invitation from countless Washington liberals to become President Obama's Kentucky candidate was a courageous decision by Alison Lundergan Grimes and I look forward to a respectful exchange of ideas," McConnell said. His campaign released a bizarre Web video on Tuesday, auto-tuning Grimes' voice.
