For its latest reality venture, Bravo invited viewers to go "Below Deck" to meet the crew of a luxury yacht. The Honor is chartered by private guests, and sometimes those guests can get a little eccentric. Sometimes, they take things too far.
This premiere featured photographer Johnny Eyelash, who boarded the yacht with a group of his party animal friends. In fact, one of the stewards, Kat, found cocaine in one of their rooms. She quickly alerted her bosses, and just like that the charter was cancelled. But, because they were out on the water, they didn't want to tell their passengers until they'd reached the dock.
“It was so uncomfortable handing that guy his coffee, when I knew we were taking him back to the dock 'cause of me," Kat said. Johnny even asked her what was happening. What was she supposed to say?
“I hope you enjoyed your charter," she said later in a confessional. "Here’s your iced coffee. Please exit the vehicle, keeping your hands and your cocaine to yourself.”
The captain explained that they had a zero tolerance policy, and that's why the charter was cancelled immediately. The crew even had to monitor Johnny and his friends as they packed their bags.
According to EW's Annie Barrett, Andy Cohen described the show as 'Downton Abbey' on a private yacht. She had a better comparison. “After tonight’s premiere, I’m calling it ‘Saved by the Bell, the Summer Edition: Lost at Sea.’ (Imagine a very special episode in which one of the Bayside crew finds a baggie of coke on the volleyball court at Malibu Sands and then hands it over to Stacy Carosi. Well, anyone except Jessie Spano, because we all know she’d be so excited that she’d keep it.)”
The New York Daily News was a little disappointed, writing that they wished the drama originated with the members of the crew as opposed to their passengers. Maybe the crew will step up the drama in future episodes of "Below Deck," Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo.
