Bill De Blasio: Eliot Spitzer Is 'A Child Of The Elite' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Blasio Slams Spitzer As 'A Child Of The Elite'

During an appearance on HuffPost Live on Thursday, New York City mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio weighed in on the city's comptroller race and criticized Eliot Spitzer as "a child of the elite."

Spitzer's father is Bernard Spitzer, an influential real estate developer worth millions.

De Blasio pointed to Spitzer's rival, current Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, as his choice for comptroller instead, adding that Stringer possessed "real integrity."

"[Stringer] is someone who is thinking about the future of this city in a way that's inclusive," de Blasio said. "He is someone who really cares about the issues we're talking about. Eliot has not only been absent, Eliot is a child of the elite. Dare I say he invalidated himself by his actions when he was in public office before."

Two polls recently found Spitzer to be leading the race.
