WASHINGTON -- In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Capital City Diner was moved to an undisclosed location from its former roost off Bladensburg Road in Trinidad.

Owner Matt Ashburn's Twitter feed has a detailed account of the transport.

But where is it going? As Prince of Petworth surmised earlier this month, a re-emergence in Columbia Heights or Petworth could be in the works, with the diner becoming a Jewish deli and/or Asian fusion restaurant.

But the future is still very much unclear. [See update below...] Ashburn tamped down rumors of the diner's future after the Prince of Petworth scuttlebutt.

Capital City Diner closed its doors in January after two years in operation.

UPDATE, 5:45 p.m.: The Capital City Diner has been purchased by Edens, the company developing Union Market at Florida Avenue and 6th Street NE, reports Tim Carman at The Washington Post. Carman reports that Edens does not yet have a specific plan for the diner, but intends to incorporate it into Union Market, which is slated to become a food destination.
