In preparation for another summer where record heat and dry weather are expected, the Colorado House passed a bill earlier in the week to be sure that the state firefighters have the funding they need to fight local wildfires.
According to Colorado News Agency, Senate Bill 11-238 draws funding from the Federal Mineral Lease funds for a total of $3.25 million annually which will fund a program that provides necessary training and acquisition of equipment that is deemed cost-prohibitive to an individual community to fund on its own.
Colorado State Forest Service person Richard Homann told the Senate Committee how critical this bill is to the fight against increasing wildfires throughout the state as Colorado News Agency reports:
Wildfires do not respect political boundaries, and under this funding scenario it allows for cooperation between local governments.
