17th Street High-Heel Race 2012 Rescheduled For Thursday

D.C.'s High-Heel Race Is Tonight!

WASHINGTON -- The 26th annual High Heel Race on 17th Street NW in Dupont Circle has been postponed. Originally scheduled for Tuesday evening, the D.C. tradition will now take place Thursday.

The D.C. tradition started in 1986 when a handful of drag queens ran two blocks from J.R.'s Bar & Grill at 17th and Church streets up to Annie's Paramount Steakhouse, took a shot, and ran back. That year's winner, Clinton Winter, took home a prize bottle of champaign.

Twenty-six years later, this tradition includes a block party that attracts visitors from around the world.
