The man who went viral for throwing his submarine sandwich at a federal officer reportedly worked at the Justice Department and has now lost his job, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced.

In a viral video from Sunday, a pink-shirted man was filmed shouting at a Customs and Border Protection officer in northwest Washington, D.C. The man then quickly wound up his arm and lobbed his sandwich at the officer before taking off running.

Footage showed the officer hit by the sandwich and several others chasing the pink-shirted man, who was later revealed to be an international affairs specialist in the DOJ’s criminal division, The Washington Post reported.

“I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice — NO LONGER,” Bondi wrote on X on Thursday while reposting an article from the New York Post.

“This is an example of the Deep State we have been up against for seven months as we work to refocus DOJ,” she wrote. “You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement.”

The news illuminates not just the discord between the White House and career federal employees following the Trump administration’s far-reaching job cuts, but how Washington locals are reacting to President Donald Trump’s takeover of the capital.

A court document obtained by HuffPost identified the sandwich-thrower as Sean Charles Dunn, 37, and the agent he hit as Gregory Lairmore. The document said that Dunn told the Metropolitan Police Department, “I did it. I threw a sandwich.”

It also claims that he shouted, “Fuck you! You fucking fascists! Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!” for “several minutes” prior to lobbing his meal at them.

Dunn was arrested and charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding officers. The charge carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail, along with fines.

Dunn’s charges come just after President Donald Trump, a convicted felon, mobilized hundreds of National Guard troops to Washington, claiming he intended to reduce crime in the district.

Trump has also invoked the district’s Home Rule Act to take control over its police force. The president, who pardoned hundreds of Jan. 6 rioters, has insisted that crime in the city is growing despite data showing the opposite.

Interim U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro appeared to use Dunn’s arrest as a warning to other protesters, who have already begun organizing against the Trump administration’s agenda.

“He doesn’t think it’s funny today, because we charged him with a felony, assault on a police officer,” Pirro said in a video posted to X. “And we’re going to back the police to the hilt.”
