Ah, the French fry. The classic snack -- perfectly salted and fried to that beautiful golden color -- first appeared in America at a White House dinner when Thomas Jefferson ate "potatoes served in the French manner." And America has been hooked ever since.
The simplicity of deep-fried potatoes sprinkled with salt never seems to grow old. We want them plain, with ketchup, served spicy and alongside our burgers (and sometimes on them).
