Making Sense Of The Hawaii Same-Sex Marriage Debate (INFOGRAPHIC)

Even though the Hawaii State Senate passed a bill yesterday to legalize same-sex marriage in the Aloha State, we still have a ways to go before it becomes law. The state's House Finance and Judiciary committees are hearing testimonies today before voting on the bill, but with more than 4,000 people signed up to testify, it doesn't seem like they'll get the chance to vote anytime soon.

There is hope, however: according to Honolulu Civil Beat, the 30-member joint committee has at least 20 “yes” votes, which augurs a happy ending to this grueling and combative legislative process.

Observers in the state expect the bill to pass on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Once passed, Hawaii would be the 15th state to legalize same-sex marriage.
