People Form Human Chain To Save Drowning Man In India

The rescue came as the southeastern state of Tamil Nadu faces the worst rainfall in decades.

At least a dozen do-gooders in India's southeastern state of Tamil Nadu banded together Tuesday to save a drowning man by forming a human chain.

Harrowing video captures the heroism of bystanders, who, in the midst of severe flooding in the state capital of Chennai, abandoned their vehicles to help the man.

Trapped in a torrential stream of knee-deep water, the video shows his rescuers saving him after about two minutes of tugging and pulling. The man is seen being safely carried to higher ground, even as more people arrive to help.

The flooding in Chennai is the worst to impact the region in decades.

At least 188 deaths are blamed on the rising water, following weeks of torrential rains, which have pounded the area since last month. More heavy rain is expected across Tamil Nadu state over the next four days.
