Flanked by Senator Bill Nelson (D-Fla) and Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla), Vice President Joe Biden spent Monday in the Everglades. He may have even given the endangered landscape a new nickname, the "ever-gators."

This week is National Parks Week, but Biden's visit also highlighted the success of Obama's recent Everglades restoration projects.
The Audubon Society recently praised the president's 2013 budget, which included $231.75 million to restore the national park. And the Everglades Foundation's Kirk Fordham said the president's 2012 Everglades plans made it "clear that this administration understands that Everglades restoration is a priority to sustain the water supply, create jobs and provide myriad economic benefits."
At a press appearance at Safari Hammock on Monday, Nelson called out the administration's help fighting invasive species.
"The vice president got to see the River of Grass and he got to see those alligators. He didn’t get to see the Burmese pythons which we are desperately trying to get rid of and finally, thanks to this administration, they have stopped the importation of this invasive species. Amen to that.”
At the press conference, Biden suggested that the fight to save the endangered Everglades started with his and Obama's time in office.
But the Miami Herald's Naked Politics blog points out that he neglected to acknowledge how such restoration projects were merely in the design and permitting phases under President Bush.
The Vice President also met with Shannon Esternoz, Director of Everglades Restoration Initiatives.
And with his granddaughter in tow, Biden toured the sawgrass in an airboat.
