McCain Supporters Who Condemn His Robocalls

Below is a list of John McCain supporters who have condemned his campaign's robocalls. To see a list of McCain backers who have not yet taken a position on the calls, click here.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME):

"These kind of tactics have no place in Maine politics," Collins spokesman Kevin Kelley said. "Sen. Collins urges the McCain campaign to stop these calls immediately."

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME):

"She feels they are regrettable and inappropriate, and these tactics should be suspended immediately," said John Richter, Snowe's chief of staff.

He said Snowe "will be in contact with the McCain campaign to express that directly."

Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR):

In a statement to the Huffington Post, Smith for Senate press secretary Lindsay Gilbride said: "They [the Ayers calls] are not taking place in Oregon and Senator Smith does not condone these sort of calls. Negative robocalls are not appropriate and have no place in campaigns."

Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN)

In Minnesota, Sen. Norm Coleman calls for no more negative advertising. On WCCO-TV in Minneapolis, Coleman was asked about McCain's robocalls.

"I think this plays into what I said about negative ads," he said. "I think those ads, those things, those calls should stop."
