House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) dubbed himself the “King” of impressions in Congress as he explained just why he so often mimics President Donald Trump to fellow Republicans.
“We try to be lighthearted, especially in these really tense times,” Johnson said on the latest episode of “The Katie Miller Podcast,” hosted by Katie Miller, the wife of Trump White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.
“When you can drop a Trump impression in the middle of the tension, everybody kind of laughs a little bit and lightens up,” Johnson explained.
“It turns out to be a great tool,” he added.
Johnson didn’t elaborate, however, on whether his impressions are meant to get his GOP colleagues laughing with or at the president.
Johnson has shown off his impression of Trump before, perhaps most notably on Miranda Devine’s “Pod Force One” podcast in July.
Back then, the House speaker and top Trump ally mimicked the president’s push to describe the GOP’s signature legislation as the “big, beautiful bill.”
