Museum Of The City Of New York Releases List Of 400 Top New Yorkers In History

In honor of Henry Hudson's 1609 voyage across the Atlantic, the Museum of the City of New York came up with a list of 400 notable and legendary New Yorkers "who have helped define New York City for the past four centuries."

The list is a veritable who's who of New Yorkers from John Jay to Jay-Z, including politicians, artists, athletes, entertainers, businessmen, educators, and those from all other walks of life in the city's hallowed history.

Notable and surprising names on the list include Edith Wharton, Louis Armstrong, Diane Arbus, Walt "Clyde" Frazier, Rudy Giuliani, Jerry Seinfeld, Andy Warhol, Ian Schrager, Herman Badillo, Brooke Astor, and of course Henry Hudson himself.

The list was compiled to coincide with the release of a new book called NEW YORK
400: A Visual History of America's Greatest City
, which is co-published by the Museum of the City of New York and Running Press.
