After Hurricane Bill delayed their departure from Washington by a few hours, the Obamas finally touched down for the week-long vacation in Martha's Vineyard on Sunday.

President Obama looked ready to relax in slacks and a tie-less shirt as he descended the steps of Air Force One. Mrs. Obama wore a white Sophie Theallet sundress that was last seen in Ghana on July 11th, while 8-year-old Sasha and 11-year-old Malia sported sunglasses and their own light summery ensembles. On the flight from Washington to Martha's Vineyard, White House spokesman Bill Burton relayed a message from the president to the reporters traveling with him: "He wants you to relax and have a good time. Take some walks on the beaches. Nobody's looking to make any news."

On Monday morning, Burton gave a press briefing from a school filing center in Oak Bluffs, saying that the Obamas spent Sunday night hanging out at the house, Blue Heron Farm, where they "had dinner with Valerie Jarrett and her daughter, and the Whitakers came over."

Burton reported that the president worked out on Monday morning and played tennis with the first lady. He then hit some golf balls with Congressman Clyburn, Mr. Wolf of UBS, and Marvin Nicholson of the White House. Watch video here.

Burton always listed the titles on Obama's reading list: 1. "The Way Home," by George Pelecanos2. Tom Friedman's "Hot, Flat and Crowded"3. Richard Price's "Lush Life"4. Kent Haruf's "Plainsong"5. "John Adams" by David McCullough.
