Peyton Manning took the opportunity as the University of Virginia as the speaker at the school's valedictory exercises to throw some football passes to students on the lawn.
Manning, the Denver Broncos quarterback, lobbed passes to a couple graduating seniors and no one dropped it.
Manning attended the University of Tennessee, though his wife, Ashley, is a 1997 graduate of U.Va.’s McIntire School of Commerce, as the Denver Post notes.
After some joking about whether Tennessee or Virginia is better, Manning did offer some great advice. One good note was reminding the grads that "people in charge don’t necessarily have all of the answers."
"Don’t let expertise silence you," Manning said. "Work to find new solutions to old problems. Think outside the parameters that restrict other peoples’ thoughts. Just because you’re a novice on the job, just because you haven’t faced the same challenges, just because you haven’t climbed the same cliffs, doesn’t mean you can't contribute to solutions in very significant ways. When you're chided for your naivety -- and you will be -- remind your critics that an amateur built an ark. Experts built the Titanic."
