Rick Perry 'Greatly Disappointed' With Boy Scouts' Decision To Allow Gay Youths

Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) expressed his disapproval of the Boy Scouts of America's decision to allow gay youths on Thursday, Pegasus News reports.

"The Boy Scouts of America has been built upon the values of faith and family for more than 100 years," Perry said in a statement. "And today’s decision contradicts generations of tradition in the name of political correctness. While I will always cherish my time as a scout and the life lessons I learned, I am greatly disappointed with this decision."

This is not the first time the Texas governor expressed his contempt for the Boy Scouts' consideration of lifting the gay ban.

Earlier this month, Perry said that Boy Scouts should resist allowing the "flavor of the month" to sway their values and principles.

"The fact is, this is a private organization. Their values and principles have worked for a century now," Perry said at a "Stand With Scouts Sunday" event in early May, according to Right Wing Watch. "And for pop culture to come in and try to tear that up because it just happens to be the flavor of the month, so to speak, and to tear apart one of the great organizations that have served millions of young men ... that is just not appropriate."

The Boy Scouts voted 61-38 on Thursday to lift the long-standing ban on allowing gay Scouts.
