Salma Hayek revealed Friday that her beloved dog, Mozart, was fatally shot a week ago.

“I haven't posted for a week as I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart who I personally delivered out of his mother's womb,” the actress wrote on Instagram. “He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart.”

Hayek added that Mozart, 9, had never been aggressive at all. “He loved his territory and never strayed away ... he was the most loving and loyal companion,” she wrote. “He didn't deserve a slow and painful death.”

The “Frida” star has long been vocal about her strong love of animals, posting photos of her numerous pets -- including multiple rescue animals -- on Instagram.

“I have five horses, four alpacas, one cat, eight dogs, one hamster, five parrots, two fish,” she told Ellen DeGeneres in 2013. “I’m sure i’m forgetting something. This is like giving thanks at the Oscars, you know you forget someone.” She then added that she also has rabbits, turkeys and chickens.

Let’s hope she finds justice for Mozart soon.

UPDATE (March 1): Law enforcement determined Monday that Mozart was shot by a neighbor who said the dog came into his garage and started fighting one of his own dogs, the Associated Press reports. The neighbor said he fired a pellet gun to frighten Mozart away, and didn’t know he had actually hit him. A deputy determined that the shooting was “justified.”

“I’m still coming to terms with all of this, as you can imagine,” the man's wife Kim Lund told AP. “We didn’t even know we killed a dog. To find out we killed a dog that belonged to a high profile person, I’m in shock.”
