Salt Art: Time Lapse Video By Motoi Yamamoto Will Take Your Breath Away (VIDEO)

Time Lapse Video Shows Amazingly Intricate Salt Sculptures

"Drawing a labyrinth with salt is like following a trace of my memory," artist Motoi Yamamoto once wrote of his art in the exhibition, "Force of Nature." The Japanese artist has been crafting intricate labyrinths of the crystalline commodity for years as a way to pay tribute to his sister, who passed away from brain cancer at only 24 years old.

Motoi works with salt because of its presence in nature and in Japanese death rituals. After Motoi installs one of his complex salt mazes, he disassembles the intricate piece and releases the salt back into the ocean. We can't stop watching the hallucinatory process of a salt labyrinth in progress, visible in the time lapse video above.
