Singing or Acting: Pick One!

Can we please start making great CDs with people who can truly sing/rap and can we please continue to make movies without Paris Hilton and Avril Lavigne having cameos in them?

I am both amused and angered by the trend these days of celebrities
who constantly try to juggle careers of acting and singing. With
record label sales at an all-time low, can we please stop signing
actors and actresses to record deals? On the other side -- if someone
can sing (if they even can), does that mean they can act as
well? Ladies and gentlemen, NO NO NO!

Today, I hear the most recent celeb gossip: Avril Lavigne now wants
to "explore other areas" by appearing in some films. She will not
settle for the small role she just landed -- she now wants big roles.
Honey, step in the freaking line. What angers me the most
in these situations are celebrities' easy transition from one to
career to the other, like Avril, who although very successful, does not exactly have a "wonderful" voice. But, hold on folks, she's famous and rich.
That seems to be all you need these days in order to step from one
scene to the other. Screw all the people that have been waiting years
to act and/or sing or actually taken classes, here comes Avril.

Pathetic. I can name few celebrities who have actually done this to
some level of success: J.Lo, Ice Cube, Mos Def, Mandy Moore. I
challenge anyone to name more celebrities who have done this to their
level. The list of failures would take up too much room.

And oh yes... how can I forget. Although I will start pulling my hair
out one strand at a time if I hear her name in one more article, I
just have to mention her briefly: Paris Hilton. Enough
said. A girl who has simply had everything handed to her on a platinum
platter. She clearly cannot sing but she has a CD out. But wait... I
guess talent does not matter these days because she's acting too!!!
Now c'mon people, tell me that she will be successful in either.
That's what I thought.

And I am sure you are all saying to yourself, "wow, this guy is just
jealous." I find it hard not to be. As someone who has wanted to be
involved in film my whole life, why would it not anger me to see these
people so easily step into the game when it is so bluntly obvious most
all of them do not have the talent that it takes. People these days
just want the name and the hype. Can we please start making great CDs
with people who can truly sing/rap and can we please continue to make
movies without Paris Hilton and Avril Lavigne having cameos in them?
It was hard enough to sit through movies like Idlewild and
Get Rich or Die Tryin. Enough said!
