State May Help Save City Airport

State Could Subsidize City Airport

By Bill Shea

Michigan's top public aviation official said it's likely the state could end up subsidizing a portion of the $1 million annual operating deficit of Detroit's Coleman A. Young International Airport while the city struggles to solve its wider cash crisis.

"It would probably require that," said Mike Trout, executive administrator for the state Office of Aeronautics and director of the Michigan Aeronautics Commission. He was director of what's better known as City Airport on Detroit's east side from 1998 to 2000.
