When Huffington Post sent the email about their #TalkToMe video series challenge with the intention of sparking meaningful conversations between children and parents I immediately asked my 15 year old son if he'd play with me. I anticipated a "No."

Living with a teenager is a roller coaster ride for sure! Some days I get one word answers...mostly I get one word answers. Yet there is this amazingly complex, interesting and thoughtful soul inside and I was excited to see what would come out of this challenge if he would do it. I think the word 'challenge' hooked him. Yes!

I showed him the suggested questions. He scraped them all and decided to ask me questions about what it was like raising him in two different cultures and being in an interracial marriage. He had more questions than we had time for in this interview and it created an evening of engaging discussion.

Thank you, Huffington Post! It was incredibly fun and absolutely successful in lighting things up in our world last night.
