I know, everyone is sick of hearing about the revival of the “Gilmore Girls,” but I need to get something off my chest. Rory Gilmore demonstrated the effects of being raised entitled... therefore becoming the quintessential millennial and I’m pissed. If you are a millennial and are reading this, I’m sorry you keep getting such a bad rap ― blame it on the idiots you grew up with.

Where did it all go wrong? I’ll tell you.

  1. She never had a real job. Sure she was editor of whatever paper at the time, but she was never required to get a job or do real labor. Her mom worked at an inn, how easy it would have been to clean rooms on the weekend or scrub dishes after school. This fed her lack of work ethic which was so clearly demonstrated in the revival. She has no job, but can jet set around to sleep with her ex-boyfriend that is engaged to someone else. WTF.
  2. Lack of empathy. If you watch the original seven seasons it is demonstrated again and again that she lacks empathy. For those of you confused by the term it means: ‘the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.’ Need an example? How about the fact that she couldn’t be bothered to show up to her own mother’s graduation or how she treated Dean throughout their entire relationship.
  3. Someone always caught her. When she decided to drop out of school, instead of being forced to figure out that life is hard, she moved in with her grandparents. In the newest episodes, she falls back on Logan, Lane, Paris and everyone else in her past to support her while she galavants all over the world.
  4. So self-absorbed. In the early seasons it was always about Rory getting ahead. How could she stand out? How could she get into Harvard? Everything she pursued resulted in sacrifices from everyone else around her. She never had a chance as an adult. In A Year In The Life she drops in on friends when it is convenient for her, she doesn’t give a shit what is going on in their life.
  5. No responsibility. She never really took full responsibility for her actions, sure she would apologize but the behavior never changed. How about when she broke up Dean’s marriage...that was cool. Her behavior didn’t change when we caught back up with her and Logan. Also, can we all agree that him calling her ‘Ace’ is completely condescending?

Maybe I’m just bitter that there was no closure and that Jess kept his shirt on. The fact is, I hated the ending, she is knocked up at 32 (ever heard of a condom or birth control) ― she is alone, unemployed and living at home. Don’t worry Rory, someone will always be there to take care of you.

P.S. I love Alexis Bledel as an actress and I am not sure she was so enthralled with her characters choices either.
