This Dad Walked His Daughter To Her Very First And Last Days Of School

We're not crying, you're crying.

Between kindergarten and her senior year of high school, Brittany Gayler truly came full circle, and it all started with a walk with her dad.

On her first day of kindergarten, Brittany’s dad, Jason Gayler, walked her to school. On her last day of her senior year of high school, he did the same sweet thing. On May 25, Brittany shared photos of both their walks side-by-side on Twitter. As of Friday afternoon, the tweet has been liked more than 50,000 times.

Brittany, who has lived in Alvord, Texas, her whole life, told HuffPost that the idea to walk her to school on her first and last days has been around for a few years. Jason found the old photo that shows him walking Brittany to school and always said he wanted to walk her to her last day, too.

During their most recent walk to Brittany’s high school, the dad and daughter talked about “how crazy time flies by.” She recalled that during her walk on her way to kindergarten her parents offered her support.

“I remember how scared and nervous I was to start school so my parents were just trying to calm me down and kept telling me that I’m going to eventually love it,” she told HuffPost. “They were being very supportive, like always.”

After he walked Brittany to school on her first day of kindergarten, Jason typically drove his daughter to school, which she still cherished.

“Anytime spent together with my dad we used that as bonding time,” she said.

When asked how it felt to have her walks with her dad as two bookends to her education career so far, Brittany explained how lucky she is to have Jason as her father.

“I am definitely blessed beyond words to have a dad that has always been my best friend.”
