'White Collar' Premiere: Neal Is Willing To Give Up Everything For Peter (VIDEO)

There could well be a major change on the horizon for Neal Caffrey. Or it could turn out to be little more than a cruel tease. Either way, the closing moments of this mid-season premiere of "White Collar" (Tue., 10 p.m. EST on USA) certainly presented an epic possibility.

That moment came after Neil had decided he was willing to give up everything by pulling the target directly onto himself. It was the only way he could see to ensure the safety of Peter and his wife. "I know what I've done. And I know what I need to do to take Keller down," he told Peter. "I'm ready to make a full confession."

But Peter had video footage to show him that changed everything. It showed Keller taking full responsibility for the stolen artwork. In this instance, it was the thought that counted, and perhaps that good will on Neal's part will lead to better things.

"Because of your outstanding service, including recovering the treasure and catching Keller, the US probation office is convening a hearing to discuss the commutation of your sentence," Peter told him. "In three months, you could be a free man."

Could it actually happen? It wouldn't necessarily mean the end of the show, but it would be a fundamental change in the relationship between the two leads.

Find out how it plays out as "White Collar" continues Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on USA.
