After Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner quietly removed photos of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attending Jenner’s 70th birthday bash last weekend, social media users were left wondering what exactly went down.
Some wondered whether the photos were scrubbed from the reality star mother and daughter pair’s Instagram accounts due to privacy reasons. A source close to the event indicated to People that it had to do with consent forms — or, rather, a lack of them.
People had initially reported that the couple checked “no” on a photo consent form for the event.
But the insider said Monday, “There were no consent forms.”
TMZ reported that a source close to the situation said Harry requested that Jenner and Kardashian remove the photos, considering the party’s proximity to the U.K.’s Remembrance Day, which honors military personnel who have died serving the country.
“We’re told they thought it might be better to delete the images rather than push something that could get picked up and misconstrued across the pond,” the outlet said.
Meanwhile, Page Six also reported that a rep for the Sussexes allegedly asked Jenner and Kardashian to take down the pics because Harry is trying to patch things up with his family.
“They don’t want to piss off the royal family while they are trying to reconcile,” the insider said. “They need the [royal] family. Meghan is aware of that.”
Reps for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Kardashian and Jenner didn’t immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
The royal couple were among many luminaries, including Oprah Winfrey, Adele and Mariah Carey, who attended Jenner’s James Bond-themed affair at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s mansion in Beverly Hills on Nov. 8.
While both Jenner and Kardashian initially posted photos on Monday of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in a recap from the party, sharp-eyed fans noticed that the images were apparently removed later from their social media feeds.
The Skims founder uploaded photos of the pair at the event, and her mother posted a picture of herself posing with them, according to People.
In the photos, Markle wore a black, long-sleeve top and a skirt with a slit, while Prince Harry sported a coordinating black velvet tux. Kardashian also posted a photo of herself and Markle.
The photos were also uploaded by the “Kardashians” stars shortly before Netflix announced the release date for the holiday special of Markle’s cooking show, “With Love, Meghan,” according to Newsweek.
