Zack Snyder won't direct "Star Wars: Episode VII," but he will direct a "Star Wars" movie. That's the report from Vulture, which states Snyder -- the director of the upcoming "Man of Steel" -- will get the behind the camera for a new "Star Wars" film that takes place within the "Star Wars" universe.
As Vulture notes, Snyder wasn't too keen on directing "Star Wars: Episode VII" when asked about it last year. “I don’t think I’d be interested in [directing it],” Snyder to the Los Angeles Times. “I'm a huge 'Star Wars' fanatic. I just think doing [episodes] seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It's a whole other mythological experiment I'm excited to see, but it's a lot of effort."
According to Vulture, the new "Star Wars" film would be loosely based on Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai."
UPDATE, 1/14: J/K! Snyder's reps told THR that the director is not making anything connected to "Star Wars."
While he is super flattered because he is a huge fan, Zack is not involved in any way with the new Star Wars. He is currently in post on his two films, Man of Steel and 300: Battle of Artemisia.

Snyder is a controversial figure in the geek sect. The director is responsible for box-office hits "300" and "Watchmen," as well as "Sucker Punch," a much-derided 2011 bomb that was mocked for its reliance on slow-motion shots.
Despite the trepidation from some, Latino Review contributor Dave Gonzales noted that having Snyder direct a film within the "Star Wars" universe is a good thing for the future of the franchise:
