Research and Policy Director, Working Partnerships USA

Bob Brownstein is Policy Director at Working Partnerships USA, a think/action tank (originally created by the South Bay Labor Council) which focuses on local and regional government issues in California. As Policy Director, he manages a team that analyzes the dynamics of local economies, evaluates the needs of working families, reviews city and county programs, and proposes innovative policy initiatives. Areas of focus include government budgets and fiscal decision-making, health care, affordable housing, economic development and government reform.

Prior to joining Working Partnerships, he spent twenty years as a senior policy analyst in local government serving as Chief of Staff to County Supervisor Susanne Wilson and Public Policy and Budget Director for San Jose Mayor Susan Hammer. He is co-author of Walking the Lifelong Tightrope, a study of economic insecurity in California, Everyone’s Valley, an analysis of the housing crisis in Silicon Valley, and An Historical Analysis of Tax and Fiscal Propositions in California, 1978-2004.
