F.K. Day

F.K. Day is President of World Bicycle Relief and Executive Vice President of SRAM Corporation, the largest bicycle component manufacturer in the USA and second largest in the world. F.K. has 20 years of experience developing new products and ensuring quality control of components manufactured in six countries in Asia and Europe.

In January 2005, F.K. and his wife, Leah, traveled to Sri Lanka to find out how they and SRAM Corporation could help with tsunami relief efforts. Through extensive interviews on the ground with residents and relief workers, and in partnership with World Vision, they mobilized the production and delivery of 24,000 sturdy bikes to Sri Lankans left homeless by the disaster.

With Project Tsunami complete, World Bicycle Relief is now engaged in providing large-scale, comprehensive bicycle programs in support of healthcare, education and economic development initiatives in countries where lack of mobility compromises the efforts of healthcare workers, students, teachers, and entrepreneurs. Project Zambia provided 23,000 bicycles to home-based volunteer HIV/AIDS; distribution was completed in April 2009. The Bicycles for Educational Empowerment Program (BEEP), launched in June 2009, will provide 50,000 bicycles to students in rural Zambia. To date, more than 55,000 WBR-branded bikes have been distributed to vulnerable people as a powerful tool in their efforts toward independence and livelihood.
