This Photo Of The Burj Khalifa Being Hit By Lightning Is Awesome
|

Photos of the world's tallest building are stunning in their own right. But this shot by photographer Michael Shainblum of the Burj Khalifa being struck by lightning on Wednesday is in another stratosphere altogether.

Shainblum described on his 500 pix page how he stood out in the rain for four hours to capture a lightning strike around downtown Dubai. "I had no idea I would actually catch a lightning bolt hitting the Burj Khalifa," he wrote.

The photographer also emphasized the stunning image is not a composite. "What you see is completely real and captured in camera."

At more than 2,716.5 feet, the Burj Khalifa in downtown Dubai stands as the tallest building in the world. It comprises the greatest number of stories and supports the highest observation deck in the world.

General alpine landscape impression (about 2000 meters over sea level) near alpine dairy Alpe Albona in the Vorarlberg mountain range of western Tyrol on July 25, 2013 near Bludenz, Austria. Alpine dairy Alpe Albona is run by herdsman Martin Riedmann and his family. He is commissioned by farmers from his home village of Dornbirn to lead the cattle up into the mountains every summer, where the animals thrive on the abundant alpine meadows. Riedmann sleeps in a traditional alm, which has only simple photovoltaic electricity, and he must bring his own supplies of food and other necessities. Alm tradition, which in many cases also includes artisanal alpine cheese production and other crafts, dates back centuries and is an integral part of alpine culture in southern Germany, Austria, Switzerland and northern Italy.
