Chicago Snow: Weather Forecast Includes Possible 'Blizzard-Like' Conditions Thursday

'Blizzard-Like' Snow, Winds Possible Thursday In Chicago

Chicago is finally expected to see its first snow of the season Thursday, accompanied with high winds that meteorologists are forecasting could create "blizzard-like" conditions in the Windy City area.

According to ABC Chicago, a Winter Storm Watch will go into effect in Chicago Thursday after anticipated thunderstorms and rainfall turn into snow as the temperature drops throughout the day. The storm is expected to hit the area during Thursday's evening rush hour, WGN's Tom Skilling reports.

Between 1 to 3 inches of snow are expected to fall in Chicago, but perhaps a bigger concern are the slippery travel conditions and wind gusts ranging between 50 and 70 mph expected to accompany the storm, AccuWeather reports. Higher accumulations of snow are expected north and west of the city.

If snow falls Thursday, it will mark the latest ever date (on record) that measurable amounts of the white stuff fell in the city, according to Skilling. The latest previous arrival of snow in Chicago was Dec. 16, 1965.
