The Atlantic's Derek Thompson will not be replacing Wonkblog editor Ezra Klein, who is expected to leave the Washington Post to launch his own media venture.

Thompson confirmed to HuffPost that he will remain at The Atlantic, where he serves as a senior editor and business columnist.

In December, HuffPost reported that Klein was considering leaving the paper to start a new media entity. The New York Times reported on Jan. 2 that Washington Post management turned down Klein's eight-figure proposal for the new site and strongly suggested he would depart. In addition to rumors about Klein's future at the Post, there's been speculation in the newsroom about which staffers may go with him.

When asked last week about management already looking for Klein's replacement, a Post spokeswoman responded that Klein "is still at the paper" and did not elaborate further.
