Detroiters see spooky stuff every day, so it's no surprise that Halloween is one of our favorite holidays -- this is the city someone wants to turn into a zombie amusement park, after all.
But the holiday has a darker association in the city, after outbursts of arson and crime on Halloween Eve, known as Devil's Night, reached a peak in the '90s. Since then, the city has relied on community support to keep neighborhoods safe on the renamed Angels' Night. Volunteers will be out patrolling the two nights prior, and kids won't be -- they have a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
(Still, we couldn't help laughing a little at the city's call for volunteers for what we can only imagine is a spookily geometric "Angles'" Night.)
Halloween falls in the middle of the week, so many venues are throwing parties the weekend before. But don't plan to stay home Wednesday night, or you'll miss Hallowicked, a celebration from the Insane Clown Posse, the Detroit masters of horrorcore. We're betting a band that got thrown out of Royal Oak will throw an unforgettable Halloween party.
And while you may have missed Theatre Bizarre, there's still an overwhelming number of things to do, whether you're looking for a wholesome celebration for the kids or something a little more devilish.
