Controversial Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio endorsed controversial real estate mogul Donald Trump's presidential bid in Iowa on Tuesday.
Or, alternatively, an infamous Obama birther will endorse a fellow Obama birther who is now questioning the U.S. citizenship of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
The endorsement, first reported by the New York Times, comes amid a heated race for the Republican presidential nomination in the early caucus state of Iowa, where Trump appears to have overtaken the senator in polling data. Arpaio, a hard-line immigrant opponent, will give Trump valuable credibility among conservatives whose top priority is securing the border.
The Maricopa County sheriff introduced Trump at a December rally in Mesa, Arizona, where he complimented him on his campaign.
“You’re the patriots, and you’ve got a lot of people — believe me — a lot of people won’t say it, but they support Donald Trump. They won’t tell you, but when they go into that voting booth, watch out,” Arpaio said.
