The world released a collective squeal when it was announced Monday that Kate Middleton is pregnant.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the news in an official statement, after much speculation that the royal couple is expecting. The news broke on Twitter shortly after 11 a.m. EST. Some websites splashed the story across their front pages, while others — like the New York Times and NBC News — took a more subtle approach.

TV Newser noted that there wasn't much of a frenzy over on cable news, either. It's a stark contrast to the royal wedding, which got wall-to-wall media coverage in April 2011.

Below, see how the media covered the exciting news on Monday.
