Kevin Durant Is Actually One Of The Best Trash Talkers In The NBA

Kevin Durant doesn't strike you as a trash talker. By his own admission, the 2014 NBA MVP is quiet and reserved -- the kind of guy who goes about his business in a dominant, but not domineering way.

That laid-back personality, however, is just a facade. According to Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, Durant is actually one of the most effective trash talkers in the NBA.

You know who I always thought [was a great trash-talker], but has been under the radar? I think Kevin Durant,” Green said during an appearance on ESPN Radio's "The Freddie Coleman Show" on Tuesday. “Lotta people don’t know that. But if you play against him, you know."

Green went on to explain, “KD makes you feel bad about yourself, that you ever talked junk. It’s the funniest thing in the world."

Throughout his NBA career, Durant's done exactly what Green's describing, but hasn't infamously earned a reputation for it like Kevin Garnett has. In January 2011, after a loss to the Miami Heat, Durant called Heat forward Chris Bosh a "fake tough guy" and in doing so, revealed why he sometimes says what he says.

"I am a quiet guy, laid-back guy, but I’m not going to let nobody talk trash to me," Durant told reporters after the game.

The following August, Durant exemplified his defensive trash talking strategy during a Nike ProCity exhibition game in New York City. Hecklers in the gym went after Durant all game, calling him "baby LeBron." At the end of the game though, Durant made all of those hecklers look very, very stupid -- just as Green mentioned -- when he nailed a game-tying shot to force the exhibition to overtime.

Durant's defensive moments aren't limited to pickup games. During Game 3 of the 2012 NBA Finals, cameras caught Durant exchanging words with Heat guard Dwyane Wade after Durant sunk a fadeaway jumper over him. He's clearly not afraid to hit back on the game's biggest stage.

Then in November 2014, this happened:

Durant has some bite to his words, even if they can be crass. At his best, however, Durant's trash talk comes from a winning position, like when he not-so-subtlety reminded Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul of how badly his team was losing, saying, "You're down 20, homie," during a February 2015 game.

Being on the receiving end of one of Durant's burns is a feeling that Green admitted on Tuesday to knowing all too well: “When he end up with 53 [points], it ain’t much you could say back at that point."
