The topic of concussions continue to hover throughout the sports community in high school, college and professional sports arenas. It was reported by Head Case that high school football accounts for 47 percent of all reported sports concussions, with 33 percent of concussions occurring during practice. While football may have replaced baseball to become America's favorite pastime it is no surprise that it has also turned into America's most dangerous past time as well.
With the increasing discussion of concussions circulating around the world Holliday Karatinos, a firm that has most recently been known for it's success with NFL concussions claims decided to take the discussion directly to the individuals impacted most by brain injuries, high school and college students. The firm's personal injury attorneys Ted Karatinos and Jim Holliday recently announced the firm's first ever Holliday Karatinos Scholarship Contest.
The scholarship offers a combined scholarship worth $4,500 which will be awarded to students to help them succeed as they pursue their professional goals through education.
In order to be eligible for the scholarship you must be a Florida resident and write an essay answering the following question: Do you think that there is enough emphasis on safety in sports to prevent concussions? What do you think we should do to curb concussions in high school athletics?. The deadline for the scholarship is on April 1st, 2016 and winners will be announced on or after April 15, 2016.
