Crime writers have to look unflinchingly at the most gruesome aspects of humanity on a daily basis, so what do they do on their off-hours?

In my case, it's just more of the same, but on a more playful level.

For 364 days of the year, I cover high profile murder trials and missing person cases.

Come Halloween, I set aside the crime writing, and turn my home, an 1800s doctors office/funeral parlor in Erie County, Pa., into a haunted horror attraction -- complete with a 27-foot Godzilla, 15-foot-cobra, and more zombies than George Romero has seen in his worst nightmare.

Take a look at the gallery below and I'm sure you won't say "boo."
