Melissa McCarthy Keeps It Real After Emmy Win And Huge Success

Women everywhere gave a little cheer when Melissa McCarthy won her Emmy this fall for her role as Molly on CBS's "Mike and Molly." Not only was it a well-deserved win for the "Bridesmaids" scenestealer -- McCarthy has been rising through ranks in the business for 14 years -- but it proved that, yes, women over 40 and over 150 lbs. can succeed in Hollywood.

McCarthy said she is reaping the benefits from the award and that everything is coming up roses these days.

"It's kind of crazy. Things have opened up. People are awful nice. I have been writing for fifteen years and now people are interested in it. I am selling things I have written," McCarthy told The Huffington Post at an event honoring her as Ivory's newest brand spokeswoman.

She not only received rave reviews after hosting "Saturday Night Live" and the titled Queen of Comedy by Entertainment Weekly, but McCarthy and her husband, Ben Falcone, recently sold the comedy "Tammy," which focuses on a down-on-her-luck lady taking a road trip with her alcoholic grandmother.

And as if they don't have enough on their plate, the comedy-loving couple also sold a pilot to CBS.

"I've been going for a long time and I have always wanted to be creative. I want to be a part of generating it and writing it. Now I get to," McCarthy said.

But she reported she is still trying to take all of the success one day at a time, and hopefully not freak out and embarrass herself.

"I am just trying not to fall down the steps. I mean, I don't know, I feel like if I am getting some nice breaks later in life, it gives you a better perspective. It's exciting, but I still go home and take the dog on a walk and change diapers," McCarthy said. "That lets me appreciate it without going crazy."
