Netflix struck a deal with Starz Entertainment LLC, a cable TV network, giving Netflix access to first-run video content for its online video-streaming service. Although completed in October 2008, the deal was a top trend on Google Trends a year later, in October 2009.

The "Starz Play" deal, TV Week reported, significantly increased Netflix's offerings, which had previously consisted mainly of DVD rentals:

Netflix and Starz' deal, named Starz Play, added approximately 2,500 titles to the streaming side of Netflix, at no additional charge to current Netflix subscribers. Nearly 1,000 titles were made available, with others to be added to the site at a later date, Netflix said.

Netflix subscribers can stream the Starz content instantly over the internet and view it on their computers or TVs. A full listing of the titles can be viewed on the Netflix site, and they include Spiderman 3, Enchanted, Ratatouille, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Superbad, and No Country for Old Men.
