New York On Edge: Three Suspicious Packages In One Day

Better vigilant than sorry.

New York seemed to be on high alert Monday, as three separate 'suspicious package' incidents halted various arteries in the tri-state area.

First, it was reported that Terminal A at Newark Airport was shut down by police after a suspicious package was found at the American Airlines counter. The FBI determined the piece of equipment, a computer monitor, to be acting normally, and reopened the airport.

Then, a suspicious SUV parked outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art irked residents of Fifth avenue, and police were called in to investigate. A large portion of Fifth avenue was closed down as they inspected the vehicle, and reopened once they discovered the boxes in the van contained clothing.

Then! DNAinfo reported that police closed off Herald Square and evacuated Macy's after a suspicious suitcase was found in front of the store. A bomb squad was called in to investigate, and two hours later police reopened the store and Square.

New York is a hardened, wary town, but three incidents in one day seems like more than usual. Is this an example of If You See Something, Say Something gone mad? Is the holiday stress getting to tourists? Or is this all somehow Wikileaks' fault?
