In a 3-minute-long web video, Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter provides "the facts" to debunk the ad's jabs at what it says are Obama's failed campaign promises.
"Karl Rove's group Crossroads is spending $25 million from secret donors to tear down the president in a new ad," Cutter says. "Time to tear this thing apart."
As Cutter mentions, the Crossroads ad is part of a $25 million buy that will air in a number of battleground states. It hits the president on his 2008 comments on foreclosures, taxes for the middle class, health care reform and deficit spending.
Cutter argues that the claims are "another set of outright distortions," made worse by the fact that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has a weak record on the highlighted issues. She then encourages viewers to do something about the ad's attacks.
"Karl Rove is relying on you to do nothing to call out his B.S.," she says. "I know you'll prove him wrong."
Crossroads GPS is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit and ally of Rove's American Crossroads super PAC. Last year, it reported that it had raised more than $77 million through contributions from undisclosed donors. While its nonprofit status allows it to keep donors secret, Crossroads reported two gifts of $10 million each and four of more than $4 million.
