Before their preseason game on Monday night, Washington safety Brandon Meriweather and some of his teammates paid tribute to Michael Brown, the teenager who was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo. on Aug. 9.
The participating players walked onto the field with their hands up, a sign of surrender used by protesters in Ferguson who are demanding justice for Brown's death. Witnesses said Brown had his hands up in the air before the officer opened fire.
"We just wanted everybody to know that we support Michael and acknowledge what happened in Ferguson. Crazy things happen every day in this world," Meriweather told USA Today Sports. "It was all of ours idea, something we decided to do as a group just to show our support.''
