Sarah Palin Donates To Jason Smith's Campaign In Missouri Special Election

Palin Wades Into Missouri Congressional Battle

Former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is wading into Missouri's special congressional election, donating $5,000 to Republican Jason Smith's campaign via her political action committee.

According to Roll Call, Palin's Sarah PAC contributed the funds on May 14 to Smith, the Speaker Pro Tem of the Missouri House of Representatives. Smith will face off against state Rep. Steve Hodges (D) in the June 4 special election to fill the seat left vacant by Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.). Emerson retired her seat representing Missouri's 8th District earlier this year to head up the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

Palin announced her support for Smith earlier this month.

"Jason has worked tirelessly to build on the foundation of his humble beginnings and is a responsible and respected leader in the Show Me State," she said in a statement. "In Washington D.C., Jason will maintain that innate sense of his community and will bring his common sense conservatism to the halls of Congress."

Smith has also picked up endorsements from the Tea Party Express and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R).
