U.S. Airlines Add Lie-Flat Seating To Transcontinental Flights

A More Comfy Transcontinental Flight

Flights across the U.S. are about to get a lot more comfortable for business class passengers.

United Airlines announced Monday the rollout of a new aircraft featuring lie-flat seats as part of its transcontinental "p.s." Premium Service. The service, which features 28 flat-bed premium-cabin seats, is offered on all nonstop flights between New York's John F. Kennedy International and Los Angeles or San Francisco.

"With these investments in our p.s. service, United will offer an unmatched inflight experience for coast-to-coast travel," said Jim Compton, vice chairman and chief revenue officer at United, in a press release. "As the airline with the most flights from the New York region, Los Angeles and San Francisco, we are committed to giving our customers convenient travel options and the premium service they expect from the world's leading airline."

United joins Delta Air Lines, which announced in November 2012 the introduction of full flat-bed seats in BusinessElite on all transcontinental flights between New York and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle beginning this month. American Airlines also announced in July 2012 its addition of lie-flat seats on aircraft to be delivered between 2013 and 2014.
