To all those who Instagram with reckless abandon, take note.
This past Valentine's Day, Vanessa Hudgens and her actor boyfriend, Austin Butler, visited a protected rock formation in Sedona, Arizona. To express their young love, the two carved their names and a heart into the red rock. Unfortunately, the social media documentation gave authorities ample evidence to pursue a misdemeanor count of damaging a natural feature on U.S. Forest Service land, the Associated Press reports.
So not (Say) OK.
Hudgens has now reportedly paid a $1,000 fine to resolve the crime, which is punishable by up to six months in jail and a maximum $5,000 citation. The money from Hudgens' fine will go toward helping a volunteer group called Friends of the Forest restore the rock wall, according to the AP.
This rock and others found in the Coconino National Forest are apparently vandalized all the time, but because of Hudgens' celebrity status, authorities were made aware of the crime. Hudgens even removed the photo from her social media account after it was posted, but what is Instagrammed cannot be un-Instagrammed.
“She was caught in the act because she publicized it and she’s famous,” Coconino National Forest Service spokesman Brady Smith said, according to the AP. “I’m sure there are others who are not famous and publicized it and we’ve never known.”
But cry not, Vanessa! At least your superhero comedy pilot "Powerless" was picked up by ABC. The "Spring Breakers" actress took to Instagram (fool me once?) to share the exciting news. Hudgens will play Emily Locke, an insurance claims adjuster who lives in a world where superheroes and villains ruin everything all the time.
Break free, girl.
