Forgive Jeff Withey if he gives Xavier Henry the cold shoulder next time the two cross paths in Lawrence, Kan. After all, his former Jayhawks teammate gave him this cold facial in what may prove the harshest posterization of the 2013-2014 NBA season.
Withey, a rookie center for the Pelicans, choose to take a charge as Henry drove the lane late in the third quarter at Staples Center on Tuesday night. He choose poorly. Henry rose up and threw down all over Withey, who established himself too far under the rim to have any chance at the whistle. The emphatic, one-handed slam stretched the Lakers' margin to 84-60 and made a Mosgov out of the 39th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
“I knew it was Jeff,” Henry said after the Lakers 116-95 win, according to ESPNLA.com. “He decided to take a charge and that wasn’t the right thing for him.”
Upon repeated viewings, the posterization is revealed to be even crueler than it may have first looked -- and it didn't exactly look collegial at first glance. Henry may have slapped his teammate on Kansas' 2009-2010 squad in the face as he rode the elevator past his floor.
