YouTube's 3D Video Channel To Support Mobile Uploads

YouTube Welcomes Users' 3D Videos--But Will They Catch On?

YouTube's 3D Channel will soon feature uploads from your mobile device, Newser reports.

The first device to support this integration will be the glasses-free LG Optimus 3D smartphone, which can record and play 3D media and was recently debuted by LG at Barcelona's Mobile World Conference.

After unveiling its new 3D device, LG announced a partnership with YouTube that would enable users to upload their 3D videos directly to YouTube from the Optimus 3D.

"3D technology has traditionally been reserved for the major Hollywood movie studios," said Francsico Varela, head of YouTube Platform Partnerships, according to LG's official U.K. blog. "With the new LG Optimus 3D anyone anywhere in the world can shoot 3D videos, upload them to YouTube and share them with their friends. We're excited to see the creative videos our community captures and shares with this new technology."

Though specifics are scant, Electronista has high hopes for what's to come: "The addition could be a minor milestone in 3D adoption as it would enable amateur 3D video to be quickly spread and shared."

For now, though, customers seeking to upload 3D media directly to YouTube will be able to do so only on the LG Optimus 3D. Could this be the beginning of a new trend?
