Today, the student-activist organization Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) is being reactivated on college campuses around the country as the New SDS. Yet, how many of its new members are aware of SDS's complex past and the role of its legendary leader, Carl Oglesby?
For me, watching a film or a live theatrical performance is a bit like making love. I'm often in the dark, unsure of the next move. Whether or not my hopes and expectations will match reality remains to be seen.
It has finally happened. We knew it was coming. With the release of Robert Redford's film adaptation of Neil Gordon's book The Company You Keep, the Weather Underground has achieved the status of a cultural trope.
While The Company You Keep can't sustain itself as the kind of thriller it's being pitched as, it's still a thoughtful, provocative story about the continuing battle between idealism and cynicism.
