Susy was born in Richmond, VA, raised in Seattle, WA, and launched her career in Los Angeles, CA. She graduated with honors from Pitzer College with a B.A. in Critical Community Studies, a self-designed major focusing on urban poverty, through a critical race theory/feminist lens, with an emphasis on community engagement.

Since 2008, Susy has been facilitating classes inside the criminal justice system, using art as a means for self-reflection, activism, and healing. She has worked for a variety of organizations including: Pitzer College’s Community Engagement Center, the LA Mayors Gang Reduction Youth Development Office, InsideOUT Writers, Friends Outside in Los Angeles County, and the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, and the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth in DC.

She is currently a J.D. candidate and “Scholar for Justice” at Seattle University’s School of Law, and has been featured in the American Bar Associations- Student Lawyer Magazine. Susy is currently a member of the Incarcerated Mothers Advocacy Project and is the Youth Outreach and Educational Coordinator for the Access to Justice Institute.
